Tim, do you think you'd like to build a house on your road?

Doddling In The Playground

I am slowly, emphasize slowly making my way through Playground and am working on number 6. Besides holidays slowing me down I've had some trouble unravelling instructions. After a few thwarted attempts I managed to send a photo to my Flickr account and when it didn't look the way I wanted I sent another edited version. Because I have a Google account I set up a Google Reader account and started with adding one of my favourite sites, Bookcrossing.com. I've studied the three diffeent options for adding news feeds and favourite blogs. I found the third one with the tutorial the most helpful and easiest to understand. Playground sounds like fun but for me it's more like boot camp but each half hour I spend presents new unheard of possibilities so I look forward to this afternoon's session.

Gems of Vancouver

I stopped into the Marketplace Bistro on the corner of Smithe and Burrard a few days ago. The guy manning the till was singing about his girlfriend as he put my Corsican panini into the grill. A trio of women walked by outside and one of them tapped loudly on the glass and waved at him. When he aknowledged them her two companions smiled and waved. Each woman that ordered was addressed as either "my dear" (for the older ones I guess) or "precious" or "beautiful". Besides the fact that the paninis are delicious I am sure people go there for the show. And although it seems women get the lion's share of attention there's an equal mix of both sexes in the lunchtime crowd. As I sat near the window observing the grey shades outside I couldn't help but appreciate the bright ones inside.

Waterton Lakes Natl. Park, Alberta

It's located in the southwest corner of Alberta just north of Glacier Natl. Park in Montana. You won't find a ski hill, a fancy spa, or a Starbucks. What you will find is a lovely, low key resort in the Rockies where you can feel your shoulders relaxing and you can experience what a good holiday ought to feel like.

When you stroll to the post office to drop off your post cards you might pass a mule deer grazing. As you take in the view down the lake it's a hugh temptation to aim a skipping stone out over the clear, blue water and count the skips.

One of my favourite hikes, because I almost always see marmots and mountain goats is the Carthew Alderson trail and after seven hours on the trail it feels really good to stand for a few minutes in the spray beside Cameron Falls before going into town for a frozen yoghurt.

Sounding like a travel agent wasn't my intention. I do like to let others know when I've found something good whether it is a book, a movie, restaurant, or a great holiday spot.
